Executive search for UK companies

Two things we do well for UK clients: place the leadership layer of your India operation, and run confidential finance and technology searches in London.

In short

UK companies come to us for one of two reasons. Either they are building an India capability centre and need the leadership layer — the same GAAP-and-statutory problem US parents face, with UK GAAP or IFRS in place of US GAAP — or they need a confidential finance or technology leadership search in London, often in fintech or regtech where FCA experience is the binding constraint.

The UK executive search market is crowded at the top and thin in the middle. We do not compete with the global majors for FTSE board appointments. We do two narrower things well.

1. UK companies building India operations

The India capability centre model is no longer a US phenomenon. UK financial services, insurance, retail and technology businesses have been building India centres for years, and the leadership problem is identical to the one US parents face — with one difference in the accounting standard.

Your India Finance Head needs to report cleanly under IFRS or UK GAAP to the parent, and simultaneously carry Indian statutory obligations — Companies Act 2013, GST, TDS, ROC annual filings, transfer pricing documentation. Candidates with both are scarce, and they are not on job boards.

The sequencing argument is the same too: appoint the finance leader before the engineering leader, even when engineering is the reason for the centre. Indian filings require a local signatory, and a UK-based financial controller cannot cover that remotely.

Our complete guide to hiring in India is written for US parents but the entity decisions, hiring order, costs and timelines apply directly to UK companies. The only substantive differences are the reporting standard and that UK working hours overlap the Indian day far more comfortably than US ones.

The UK advantage nobody mentions

A UK parent has a four-and-a-half to five-hour gap with India, against ten and a half for US East Coast. That means genuine overlap for most of the working day — interviews, escalations and month-end close can all happen in shared hours.

It is a real operational advantage over US-parented centres, and it is worth factoring into how much local seniority you actually need in year one.

2. Finance and technology leadership in London

Where we are genuinely useful in the UK domestic market is narrow and specific:

Fintech & regtech

CFOs, Financial Controllers and Heads of Compliance where FCA authorisation experience is the binding requirement. A small, well-mapped pool that responds to credible direct approach, not job postings.

Scale-up finance leadership

First CFO or Finance Director appointments at Series B and beyond, where the seat has to carry a raise as well as the reporting.

Confidential replacements

Replacing a sitting CFO or CTO without signalling to the market. Partner-led, anonymised approach, no public advertising at any stage.

India-facing technology leadership

Engineering leaders in London who will run or interface with an India delivery team — a combination most UK search firms handle poorly.

We are not the right firm for a FTSE-listed board appointment, a volume hiring programme, or a function outside finance and technology. Our disqualifiers are published so you can rule us out in two minutes.

Why an India-based partner searches the UK well — and where we do not

The India-linked talent corridor

A meaningful share of UK finance leadership is Indian-origin — Chartered Accountants who qualified in India, worked in Indian BFSI or Big Four, and moved to London mid-career. We map that population natively, including the part of it that is open to a move and not visible on a job board.

We are also the right partner for the increasingly common UK role that runs or interfaces with an India delivery team — a Finance Director overseeing a Chennai shared-services centre, or an engineering leader accountable for a Bangalore team. Most UK search firms assess the London half of that job well and the India half not at all.

Where we are not the right choice: a search that depends on deep local network in a UK sector we do not cover, or a FTSE board appointment where the process itself must carry institutional weight. We will say so rather than take the mandate.

We are four and a half hours ahead of London, so most of your working day is shared. Billing in GBP under a standard MSA.

Twenty minutes with a senior partner

Bring the role and we will tell you what it realistically costs, how long it will take, and whether it is a search worth running at all — whether or not you hire us.

Can a search firm based in India recruit effectively for UK roles?

For specific searches, yes. A meaningful share of UK finance leadership is Indian-origin and moved to London mid-career, and that population is native territory for us. We are also the right partner for UK roles that run or interface with an India delivery team. For a search that depends on deep local network in a UK sector we do not cover, or a FTSE board appointment, a UK-based or global firm is the better choice and we will say so.

Can you invoice in GBP?

Yes, in GBP under a standard Master Services Agreement, NDA-ready and GDPR-aligned, paid by international wire or Stripe. Contingency fees fall due only once your hire joins.

Do you help UK companies hire in India?

Yes, and it is our strongest use case for UK clients. UK parents building India capability centres face the same leadership problem as US ones: a Finance Head who can report cleanly under IFRS or UK GAAP while carrying Indian statutory obligations including Companies Act, GST, TDS and ROC filings. Candidates with both are scarce and are not on job boards.

Is the time zone gap easier for UK companies than US ones?

Considerably. A UK parent is four and a half to five hours behind India, against ten and a half for US East Coast, so most of the working day overlaps. Interviews, escalations and month-end close can happen in shared hours, which is a genuine operational advantage and worth factoring into how much local seniority you need in year one.

What UK roles does Talfino actually search?

Finance and technology leadership only, and within that we are strongest on fintech and regtech CFOs and Heads of Compliance where FCA experience is the binding requirement, scale-up finance leadership at Series B and beyond, confidential replacements of sitting executives, and engineering leaders who will run or interface with an India delivery team.

Are you the right firm for a FTSE board appointment?

No. Global majors are a reasonable choice for board-level appointments at large listed companies, and we do not compete for that work. We are a boutique, which is a real trade-off rather than a marketing position, and our disqualifiers are published so you can rule us out quickly.

What does a CFO cost in London in 2026?

Indicatively 150,000 to 250,000 pounds base plus a 25 to 50 percent bonus and equity, depending on company stage and sector. Finance Director runs 110,000 to 180,000 and Financial Controller 90,000 to 140,000. Full ranges are published free with sourcing stated.
